The joy of bonding with your Historic...

Long story short...I am really feeling deep love for my 09 R8 lately. I'm talking about that feeling you get from time to time when everything just flows out naturally through your instrument. Never needing to tweak anything.... just wood, wire, and flesh making the noise one hears in their head.

Often I wondered if I'd ever get a Historic, having drooled over photos and descriptions here for years. My girl left a couple months back and I decided the time had come. After the trials of getting the guitar set to my needs, which kept me sane during tough weeks, I finally found everything in the sweet spot. OH the joy.

Last week I was diagnosed with an incurable fatal illness, which I'm working on getting more opinions on. But..during the days of wondering what will be, I find myself deeply grateful for this R8 hanging on the wall. I think everyone should get the opportunity to enjoy the things we dream of while they can.

I may not be a rich man, but I feel blessed to have the joy of playing guitar, something I took for granted the last 30 years.

Enjoy your Historics boys. Thanks for inspiring us lurkers to make the dream happen.

I'm sorry to read of your recent diagnosis.... Probably, most of us generally take our health for granted, when time, (in fact) is fleeting... Truth is, that, (even if we think are healthy) none of us knows what tomorrow may bring...

Continue to enjoy your fine guitar and meantime, I hope you can do some searching/get the right advice, (concerning the condition afflicting you) in the hope that some positive options might yet present.

Re: The joy of bonding with your Historic...

Thanks guys. I'm a pretty upbeat dude, so no time to waste not enjoying life. You just never know what's around the bend. I'm turning 40 this year, have lived an awesome life. Seen the some of the world, lived in the mountains and skied and hiked for 10 years now. Been living clean for 18 years of my life and loved some great women.

But...everything in my soul just loves guitars always has. Never figured out how to make a living with it, but who cares, I just love em.

Thanks for all the kind words...my situations means no matter what I do I get to enjoy the rest of my life and might be forced to hurry up and do those things I've put off. I know that when I am reading this and other forums, you guys know the deep connection I have for this instrument. Cheers.

Re: The joy of bonding with your Historic...

I know how you feel about bonding with a great guitar, it's a very strong addiction. I often get cravings throughout the day that can be stronger than nicotine cravings when I used to smoke! ...if I go for a day without playing I feel like I've missed out on an important event and my day isn't complete... crazy huh?

Anyway it sounds like you've lived well, done some great/interesting things have no regrets, you can't ask for more than that... I wish you all the best.

Really a great post. I understand you bond with guitars. Sometimes, the right guitar at the right time is a real blessing. I hope that guitar continues to take good care of you. And I will pray for your health and longevity. Your story sent chills down my spine that will not go away!

This is really a very strong bond. Between you and your musical instrument...I cannot think of something more fulfilling.

Keep a high spirit, man. I pray that the diagnosis shows nothing serious.

Re: The joy of bonding with your Historic...

Playing guitar is such a meditative experience once you get solid chops. I always hoped one day I could pick up my guitar and my fingers would magically know what to do. What a gift to have reached that point. It's so hard to explain to my students how to bond with their instrument, except to eat, sleep, and dream with the thing....and 20 years of devotion.

Never knew I was a Les Paul guy, until coming across a nice Studio. It just missed something no matter what the modifications. The R8 nails all that I'd try to get out of the Studio. Might not be a looker, but I play eyes closed anyway.

Thanks for the well wishes. Got nothing but respect for this forum and it's members.

I will pray for you Studio- it is all about attitude. You can fold up and die or realize life itself is a fatal disease, and all that we have is today. I celebrated 20 years sober this week- am reading Sermon on the Mount written in the 1930's by Emmet Fox. Pray with absolute confidence- pray and say thanks for the health you have today. Then go enjoy your day- then play some guitar and repeat.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Attitude is everything and sounds like you have a good one. Even if your diagnosis turns out to be wrong (and we all hope it does) get your bucket list together and go for it. When we arrive at life's finish line we should all come skidding across in a big broad slide, dirty and battered, torn and tattered, swing our kickstands down and knock the dirt off and say "Man! What a ride!!!"

Re: The joy of bonding with your Historic...

Thanks to all for the prayers and kind words. Had a second opinion yesterday and was given good news. Strong possibility of being misdiagnosed the first go around. Pretty sweet and still upsetting. Lots of work still to do getting things figured out.

Worst thing about what's going on is slowly losing strength in my hands. Playing guitar has been harder and harder over the last several years, but I never give up.

The point remains. Make the time to live and enjoy your life. No one ever spoke the last words, "I wish I'd put in more time at work." Unless maybe you are lucky to work at what you love. Here's to being on the right side of the ground for a while longer.
