Q. Why was Color changed on '01 R9's?

Does anyone have any information regarding why Gibson changed to the non faded Cherry-Burst finish on the '01 R9's?
For some reason the color seems to look better in person then in most photo's, I don't have any pictures of mine to post yet,but there is a photo of it on the last page of Vintage Guitar Mag.(Burst issue) Guitar Galleria ad. # 9 1790 out of about 25 this one sounded the best.

You like em or you don't.

I like the color on the one I own. It actually "resembles" 40 year old originals I have only seen in books. Could not say for sure because I never saw an actual original!

My 2001 is very different from the Y2K or 2000 models. Not better. Just different. Time will tell. I am sure these will fade like the recent reissues. Probably more than the 1995 reissue a friend owned which has retained it's color,

As soon as the weather cools off here I'm going to try and fade it some in the sun, I've actually thought about having Murphy refinish the top for me,but I've decided against it.

Murphy told me they wanted to go back to the brighter pre-99 colors with flame enhancer and mega tops.

One of my 01s has a real cool orange tea burst with a tinge of red, nothing like the red I have been seeing. When I first got it I figured I would put it aside just in case I saw one with a better top. Funny thing is, I haven't seen too many tops that I would trade it for now, mostly because I never really saw this color on another 01, so any better top wouldn't have this look anyway. The other thing is the frets aren't profiled low, I really don't feel much of a difference from my 99s and Y2Ks, other than a slightly nicer profile. The board is black as coal, the factory nut job is killer, it plays like a mutha. I'm really thinking of keeping it and making a player out of it, I just don't think I'll find this color on another.

FLAME ENHANCER?

is halford using that?
my y2k is fading real nice-almost all of the red is headed towards tea/brown and the back is lightening-i almost like the 01 8's better than 01 9's-i love the old look with no mega flame top and i'm a sucker for a good tiger stripe/flame combo- my r9's ser# is 9 0062 and has a chevron flame top with a little twisting of the stripes-very 3d and very "real looking"-i bought the guitar for the sound and playability and had no knowledge whatsoever about the real bursts history other than seeing the occasional rock star with one-after joining this forum and buying the botb book i have been enlightened -i was insterested to see the real bursts and and was suprised that i picked one that looked sorta real- i would like a little darker board though and its almost ready for a neck treatment so i'll see what i can do there.:dude

Keep an eye out on some of the new '58's, Gibson is varying the colors a lot recently, like the darkbursts (yea!) and I have a new '58 Authentic in my hands right now here at Dave's that has a great, very authentic looking tea-burst color that looks almost identical to my #39 Murphy. Way f***ing cooler looking than the clown bursts. I've been told that the '59 production for this year is done.
