Hi folks
I'm off to see a friend tomorrow who just happens to own the Koss burst pictured here, apart from some vintage books I dont think there's any decent digi pix of this guitar about, so I just thought I'd put that right !! so watch this space, I'll post the pix here as soon as I get back.....Frank [IMG][/IMG]

The one in that photo is the one now owned by Arthur Ramm. Is that your friend? Because there are lots of pics of this guitar out there.

I'm quite local to you (Jarrow), if there was ever any way of getting to play that guitar I'd be over the moon - I'm a massive Koss fan. I'm so jealous you're gonna even SEE that guitar in person.

Give Arthur our best and thanks for allowing access to an "historic" guitar! For real it is a real piece of RnR history and I can't wait to see your photos. I hope you get to amp it up too. That would be the monkey's bollocks!

Re: Kossoff Burst

Hey guys. i have a CD copy of the original tape that Steven Rosen made of one of Koss's last (if not THE last) interviews he did with him for Guitar Player Magazine, shortly before his death. it's noisy, and hard to hear their conversation at times, but being such a Koss fan, it's truly one of my greatest treasures! if anyone would like a copy, drop me a line. I'm happy to do whatever i can to help keep his memory alive. i can also share the stories i got from Tony Braunagel and Terry Wilson about their days in Back Street Crawler with him. jscott017@satx.rr.com

Thanks v. much, in advance.

Re: Kossoff Burst

Gents I've got some bad news for y'all, My mate Arthur's only allowing me to post ONE photo, I think he's concerned about the security of the guitar, although I can't personally see how thats being compromised here, nevertheless he's got his reasons and for my continued friendship I have to respect that, I dont know how to get around this, I feel like I've let everybody down, maybe at a later date I will try to persuade him to let me post more, I just don't know.

Anyway to see and play the holy grail, for me anyway being a massive Koss fan was a dream come true. It's a good deal lighter than my '05 std boat anchor' and the neck is a real chunky job, really comfortable, a definite 59 although the date of the guitar is not known because of the headstock repair which is from the g sharp, the luthier,Sam Lee made the headstock himself, not a gibson replacement neck hence the no serial number. Also the GIBSON logo was carefully grafted off the damaged part and onto the new head, hence it being slightly lower down. I've never played a burst before, when I plugged in I just can't describe how good it felt, not just because I was in awe of the thing, I'm just lost for words on how beautiful it played and sounded,( Arthur's had it refretted with jumbo frets and a new nut and a bridge pu repair ) considering it's age I swear it felt brand new, an experience I'll never forget.
Now I'm left with the difficult choice of which one of the 40 pix to show you and to say once again how sorry I am that I can't post more. Frank

Re: Kossoff Burst

I would have been so overcome by the moment I don't know if I would have been able to play anything. what an awesome, awesome memory for you! I hope that Koss will always be appreciated for what he gave us all. His playing helped me realize how a Les Paul could sound when I was very young and he had his own voice that will never be matched IMHO. Good on ya!

Koss always has been, and probably always will be my favourite LP player. I just can't imagine what it must be like to be allowed to be in the same room as this guitar, never mind play it!
What an amazing day that must have been.

I agree. Koss is god to me. Reminds me of a few years ago when his '54 Custom was at the Dallas Guitar Show and i wasnt aware of it, i walked right by it. My best friend/bass player was like "Yeah that was at the guitar show" I looked at him and said "You saw it??" He says "Yeah..." and then im going "Why the hell didnt you tell me!!!"

Re: Kossoff Burst

Allthough i have (allmost) all Kossoff's recordings i feel ABSOLUTELY no need to get any closer to Paul's real life, i have deep sympathy for the guitarist he was.

I do somehow keep searching for that really deep and heavy rythm tone from his later work, still realising hes just a chap doing his 'thing' amongst us -still-. I wonder if he had ever imagined how many of us would adapt to his style in whichever form.

RIP Paul......

Bass speakers. Thats where that deep, heavy tone came from. Get yourself some bass model Celestions or copies(WGS,Weber, Scumback).

Koss was anything but a shredder. He put shredders to shame!

That said, since youve never heard of him, he was the guitarist for FREE. They were best known for All Right Now(although they had many more, better songs)

Very hard to believe. He has been mentioned as much as Clapton, Green, and Bloomfield on this forum. If it is some sort of passive jibe on the guy, I would suggest going back and really listening to the Free stuff. Kossoff was a genius and had the tone all with a burst plugged right into a Marshall with just a volume and tone knob.
