Early EVH and LP flashback
OK I see EVH with a Gibson LP that has a P-90 in the neck PU and what looks to be an HB at the bridge, but can't really tell which LP it really is. 50's? 70's?
Anybody know? ![]() |

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
I'd guess an early seventies deluxe by the paddle headstock and wide binding. It must have been routed for a HB in the bridge, and a P90 dropped in the neck - very cool looking guitar!

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
Later he took the neck pup right out and left an empty cavity.
I have seen pictures of him playing it that way. Or perhaps its another Les Paul, you fellas would know better. Agreed....cool pic. ![]() Last edited by deepblue : 03-29-09 at 05:31 PM. |

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
These two guitars are different. The first picture (which is really old and cool) looks like a goldtop.
The second pic live is the LP burst he has. Not sure of lineage or year but it is indeed a burst. |

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
If I remember the story correctly he bought two 60's in the early 80's for something like $6000 each. I think I read that on this forum.
In the colour picture there's one on the stand and one on the floor.

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
I'm glad one of the '60s is NOT the 5150-striped LP shaped guitar in the color pic! There were so few made, it'd be a shame to have striped and put on Floyd on one of those!

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
in the recent Guitar world cover story, he talks about the LP with the humbucker in the bridge, and why/how, etc. Also mentions how he wants the New Wolfgang model to stand up to and have all of the class of a Les Paul. Anyone else read it?
Aside from his usual bravado and arrogance, in this interview he is surprisingly humble... it is a very cool read - hearing about what he has looked for in a guitar, and the trial and error of other EVH models along the way. And with the 5 ply binding and toggle switch location, I can imagine that as a LP player it would feel comfortable immediately. |

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
I agree, I think he'd mess with a Burst, not like he needs the money. He's always looking for tone but I'm sure he'd mod it..
Just like the story I read about the reissue of Frankenstrat, down to cigarette burns and everything, then doesn't even play it on tour that I could tell. He did the new Wolfgang and always plays those. |

Re: Early EVH and LP flashback
I think it would be latter 70's since VH 1 came out in '77.
