Mr. Moon's Traditional #3!!

Yes, you read that correctly. I have LP Traditional #3 in my hands after discussing things with Gibson directly. This is the guitar I wanted to purchase from Musicians Fiend in the first place, but since they couldn't provide me with a decent instrument and then they were (I'm trying to be tactful here...) not exactly forthcoming and accurate with information they fed me, I was able to get my hands on an AWESOME Traditional via another route!!

I Just got this today and just finished jammin' with if for about an hour, so I thought I'd throw some pix to you.

(Click on the images for larger versions)

Anyone who thinks that Gibson doesn't listen, doesn't read their emails, and/or that they don't care, is gravely mistaken. My personal experience is that they *do* care, they *do* listen, and they *do* want to make the best guitars they can. I now have a new appreciation for not only what they do, but how many different preferences they have to try to work around to make a product that *most* folks will be happy with.

I never expected to hear back from them when I sent out a couple of "I'm not a happy camper" emails, but within a week I did, and within a couple of days after that I spoke with them directly about all the issues I had, and the issues I have read here on the forums.

Anywho, I am extremely happy, and this Trad will fit in nicely with my R9!!

Beautiful - and this begs the question: how does it compare to the R9? (Details, details....)

*I PROMISE* that once I have had more of a chance to play this one, I will go into more detail regarding this topic. There are some things that hit you immediately (gloss vs. VOS) and then there some more subtle things that I'm still figuring out.

All I can really say is that there are some differences that make these two guitars complement each other nicely!!'

Re: Mr. Moon's Traditional #3!!

That is a lovely paint job. Interesting that I can always distinguish sunbursts painted in the Custom Shop vs. USA Production shop in that the Custom shop uses a tear-drop burst pattern, but the USA production shop follows the outline to paint the burst.

Regardless, that is a killer guitar, you are a lucky man.

Looks good, Moon!

Is yours Ice Tea? It certainly looks like the twin (or cousin) of mine.

I'd certainly like to hear how it compares to an actual '59.

Thanks,
O2

Re: Mr. Moon's Traditional #3!!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the congrats and such ...it's been a long journey, but I have to say it all worked out very well! I'd have to admit that I wish I would have gotten a nice Traditional the first try (or second try), but if that would have been the case I wouldn't have the R9 that I have now, so I guess it all worked out. Right?

Anyways, I hope to do some more jammin' with it over the next few days and get some more reports to you. However, my first impressions are that the Trad feels like a "new" guitar, while the R9 feels like a guitar that has been treated well for the last 40 years. Funny, but the R9 just has a certain "aged" mojo to it ...from the tone (more vintage LP sounding) and perfect setup. The Trad has a smoother creamier tone to it and it will require a setup at some point to get it exactly where I want it to be. I tried another one that had a better setup on it, but it didn't have the nice top and tone that the one I bought has.

Yes, it is "Iced Tea", but my lackluster photography skillz don't do it justice and makes it look a bit brighter than it is (due to the flash maybe?) and looks like it has less marbling than it does.

I dig the pickups. Very nice and smooth!

Once my wife and I get "boy" (my son) to sleep, I'll be jammin' on it some more!!!

You should take some more pics without the flash on and in a brighter place (not near the window)

Congratulations once more, they have nice flame tops those trad's

I'll try that, but I'm really not a photographer and just usually set the camera to "auto" and let it decide what to do with everything. I guess if it is light enough outside it won't kick the flash off, will it?
