Ebay Assholes

Is Ebay being inudated with assholes or is it just me? Some yahoo named c40man placed a $7500 bid on my guitar(after sending me a bazillion emails asking every conceivable question you could think of) and then a day later withdrew his bid and claimed he had bid on the wrong guitar!
Apparently, Ebay let's these assholes get away with murder.

Most of my experiences on Ebay have been good. A couple of them have been marginal. There are lots of assholes out in the world and you are bound to meet up with some of them, sometimes. That is a shitty thing to do to you.
I have a friend who recently sold a good straight vintage guitar on Ebay and was then contacted by the buyer who said that he just didn't have the money so no sense talking any further. My friend left bad feedback on him and the buyer left bad feedback on my friend saying that the pictures were doctored etc. He was a bit pissed but what can he do??? It can be a shitty world sometimes.........:60burst

Very rarely do I ever sell gear, but the few times I decided to sell some of my unplayed eye candy on ebay every F**king asshole came out of the woodwork. High bidders backing out, people bidding just to see reserve, tons of stupid questions, etc etc. It got to the point where I was going to sell all my LPs and forefeit my membership in the homo asshole club. My new motto, sell NOTHING!

I forgot to say the asshole busted my reserve with his bids(notice the use of the plural). There was no way he bid on the "wrong guitar".

EBAY!

I guess I am pretty hip to the e-bay scene. I think they should have strict rules against new users. Like set a dollar amount that your allowed to bid on anything until you prove yourself.

The breaking the reserve and backing out should be simple. If your bid breaks the reserve you are bound to that bid and a retraction should not be possible.

A new user with 0 feedback and shades bid on a Super Lead I was selling. He won and two days later backed out saying his credit card comp. would not allow him to buy it. I was able to get the ebay percentage of the sale back and relisted the head. I did not give him bad feedback. This where ebay is f**cked up. If I would have givin him bad feedback, he would have givin right back. His sale is still listed in my feedback to leave page.

To resolve this ebay should give the user the bad feedback as an admin. Not the guy trying to sell his stuff.

If anyone from e-bay reads this you can give me some free auctions for the advice. 2222

Same thing happened to me. I have one negative feedback out of well over a hundred. It was from some jerk who won my auction and after never emailing me(I finally tracked him down when Ebay used to give out their addresses) and he literally said to me "I'm supposed to get some rent payment next Friday, maybe I can pay for it then." Like a fool I told him that I'd give him until that time, but that if he hadn't paid by then, I'd sell to the next highest bidder who was dying for the guitar.
Long story endless...he flakes I sell to the next highest bidder and HE leaves me negative feedback.
It sucks when you can't get Ebay to remove a completely verifiable bullshit feedback.

I have bought and sold several guitars on ebay, so far I have had good luck. When I sold my '96 Custom, I negated several bids from people with 0 feedback. I also emailed all the bidders and asked them how they intended to pay. The frist time I listed the guitar, my reserve was not met, but I had several people emailing me after the auction, including one guy from Brazil who wanted to pick the guitar up in person in September! Crazy MFers out there, let the seller beware!!! I was happy the guitar went to a Zakk Wylde fan!

Be careful out there

I've bought a bunch of stuff on eBay over the years, including amps and guitars. I sold some, too, and I've had more trouble selling than buying, so I sympathize. When I buy, I contact the seller immediately, and pay as quickly as I can--electronically, if possible.

But some sellers can be a pain. I've had sellers back out on me, go out of town on me, and one guy even shipped me stuff I swear was badly damaged before it even went in the box (so he got his money from UPS, basically). Sellers who act like they're doing me a huge favor piss me off.

I never buy from sellers with no feedback, and I won't send a money order for more than $500 to anyone, I don't care how much feedback they have. And if it's a really high priced item I won't bid unless I can use an escrow service. One time I asked a guy selling a BF Deluxe Reverb about escrow (which would have been at my expense)--he told me he didn't do business that way. That told me all I needed to know, right there!

But, hey, eBay isn't pretending to be any more than it is. I'm a grown up, I can look out for myself.

Ebay? No way.

I absolutely refuse to deal on Ebay anymore. I have sold quite a few SG's and Les Paul's on there (some Historic, some not), and was pleased til one of my last deals went belly up. Long story short, the guitar was sent one state away, very heavily packed (as usual), and UPS roughed it around a bit. Somehow or another, this thing ended up in his hands half-opened, with scuffs on the case. I agreed to put a claim in for a new case if that's what he wanted. But then after a few days he starts moaning and groaning that the guitar (sold as a USED, yet cared-for axe) had imperfections. We're talking about a total of TWO dings, not through the finish, and smaller than a pinhead, and a slight overbuff from the factory on one part of the top. After lots of threatening and hateful emails, I agreed just to get this loser off my back. UPS paid for the damages, and I refunded this jerk his money. I got the guitar back only to find that he had also taken it upon himself at some point while he had it to gut it (electronics), and pretty much remove all the hardware and all. Everything appears to be back in place, but not before he got his cheap thrills by taking apart this guitar, putting more scratches and damage on it in the process, and getting fingerprints and grease all over it. He tried denying it, but could not say a whole lot when I confronted him as to why there were two screws just floating about inside the case (one for the tuners, and one for a pickup ring). I was petrified that this piece of collecting crap had chopped it for parts he wanted and put imported stuff on it. I would have hunted him down if he had. I told him I was not going to do business with him any more, and would you believe the last (and I mean LAST) auction I put up he had the gall to bid on that guitar too??? And then wondered why I cancelled his bid. I told him this too was an "imperfect" piece, so don't waste either of our time. Ebay protects its sellers, but also its buyers. Sometimes, the occasional guitar-queer bids, and then it goes sour. And that one instance made me decide never to sell on there again. And never sell to such proud "collectors" of musical instruments. I hope no one else has to endure that useless and highly unnecessary BS.

I had my first bad experience iwht ebay this summer. Selling an old acoustic, guy snipes at the end of the auction. then, it is almost 1 week between the first communicaiton, then at least 2 weeks between any following ones. Guitar was arhtop acoustic, with a few finish cracks -great condition for its age.

Finally get this guy to pay - after haggling over shipping costs for 2 weeks - and when he gets is he says its the "Wrong guitar," and then says, "Oh I mean it's broken." The guitar shows up at my place almost a month later, with the top nearly pulled off of the body. He claims it happened in shipping, but that the box was not damaged. In fact, the a-hole used the same boxe to ship it back.

Should I file a claim with UPS? Would you give the money back and try to collect from UPS?

I never had a bad experience with ebay until this point. I'm so pisssed I may never use it again. This crap has been going on all summer.

UPS claims...

Actually, here's the right way for both of you (this is the actual step-by-step procedure I used):

Report to UPS the problem, and let them investigate. UNTIL they admit their folly in it, don't give this freak his money back. Because if they say there's no way they could've done it, you're out the cash. Tell the guy when/if they reimburse you, he'll get his reimbursement. The guy (like the one I dealt with) probably won't like the wait, but it's either let UPS decide whether they did it, or he keeps the "Damaged" guitar under the pretense that it was in fact he and NOT UPS who damaged it.

If they find themselves at fault, they'll send you a check and you can refund this guy. If not, tell him tough crap.

The piece of trash I dealt with threatened me because he felt UPS was taking too long to send the refund. I laughed, but at the same time told him I was perfectly clear about the procedure and was not altering my course of action. You have to be fair, but as in my case, sometimes you also have to be firm and stand by your laurels. Remind your buyer of bad karma coming back to him.

Don't let deadbeat Ebayers intimidate or mess with you. And if he gives you crappy feedback, just return the favor (and explain in your response section what really happened). Good luck!

Many reasons to use reputable authorized Dealers.

Tilt-a-Whirl. You go for the thrill of an auction & you take your chances. EOM.

There's another choice.....

Maybe I'm the last to know this, but finally....after all my headaches with on-line auctions, I've found another way! Gibson's Custom Shop has a Custom Select feature. CHECK IT OUT! They put up photos of guitars dealers already bought from them. They even list the dealer for each guitar!!! Imagine getting to buy a guitar before the on-line auction guys get 'em first, not to mention getting a warranty. Gotta go...I'm going back to look for more...

From the title of the thread...

I thought that it was going to be autobiographical.;)
