Thought I'd share a guitar that some may find interesting.

1964 Gibson Sg Special, owned, used, smashed AND repaired by Pete Townshend of The Who.

Pete repaired the guitar himself in his cellar (basement) back in the early 70's using Cascamite carpenters glue and the repair has lasted ever since.

The guitar plays like a dream and sounds great even with the non original pickups.

Just to confirm that this guitar is NOT for sale and I'm not spamming. :peace2

The piece of the body glued on where the controls are has come from another guitar.

Either that or maybe that section was fabricated from scratch?

Maybe, but back in the day he would make one 'good' guitar from bits of broken guitars. The lower inside half of the control cavity looks too good to be fabricated. I think he just shaped it with a rasp. :##

It really almost looks rasp shaped, not complaining of course. :) Congrats on having it, beyond cool.

Way cool! Petes playing is the reason I bought my 65 Special. It's amazing to think of him, height of fame, probably somewhat inebriated, down in his cellar gluing this guitar back together.

Thanks for sharing. Is this one of your personal guitars Rich?

Surely it's later than a '64 with that pick guard? That top photo's of the Who on the Stones R&R circus in '68.

Very cool, I thought his best sounds was the Live At Leeds Special + Hiwatt days.
