Need advice on a new R9

A music store near me has an 03 R9 Flame top for sale. I was thinking of buying it. He wants $3500. The guitar is new & ultra light. The top is just right. I was thinking of it as an investment as these guitars appear to be going up fast, plus I would be playing it all the time as i make the rent with music. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

Don't buy it as an investment, buy it to play and cherish.Although it may hold its value quite well, its not likely to increase its worth.

I thought these are going up......Playing it is not an issue as i will use it alot. People are telling me these are going to be worth something. Is that true from past experience? Just the R9's.

Is it worth it to wait for the 04? and is it more historically correct? Or should I just grab it? I know I could always get my money out of it if I need to.

"They are going to be worth something? " Look around,it's not like R9's are hard to find. They are making thousands and thousands of historics! Come on you want an investment-stick with the stock market.

I can make about buying it as an investment sound a little better.

Buy a new leather sofa for $3500 and once you take it out the door it is worth about $1000 on the used market.

Buy the 03 R9 for $3500 and once you take it out the door it is worth maybe $3000 on the used market.

There I just made you $2000 - go buy the darned thing. You knwo you want it. You know you need it. It is calling you. Go right now

I love mine, I use them all the time on gigs. In fact since I bought my Historics I have anywhere form one to four gigs a week. See, another reason to buy it - you will get more gigs!

Few, if any Historics have gone up in value, especially those that have been modified and have some wear and tear on them (Murphys aside). Fat chance with the high numbers Gibson is cranking out this year that non-brazilian '03 R9's will go up in value (at least not for a LONG time). That said, Historics hold better resale vaule than most other brands. $3,500 is about as good a price you'll find for a new one and you won't get killed if you have to sell her some day. P.S.: don't forget to ask for a "same as cash" credit plan if you don't want to fork out the cash right away.
