who bought 8 11346 at Daves?

Who bought the darkburst 8 11346 at Daves?I spotted it as they were loading it up on the website.Wrote an email to hold it ,talked to them saturday to confirm the hold and get pictures, and when I called back on monday, it mysteriously wasn't there.Just disappeared.I said ,I would guess it's" sold" and they said "guess so,must be".Then they asked,"Gee.did you call back two times to hold it?"I didn't make a big deal of it,but just because I asked for additional pictures and took a day to think about it ,They sold it.I know its business ,but really.
To buy a burst online requires additional pictures. Its unbelievable how light changes the look of the top .It's perfectly acceptable to me to be given a day or two to get all the info, when a guitar is on hold.I like to know what I'm buying.I just didn't think it was good business,to just go a sell it.What's the point of putting something on hold if a store's gonna sell to someone who walks in with cash?I could see if I left them hanging for a couple of weeks or something, but from saturday to monday? What do you guys think?

Ed,
I was only kidding. I really don't know who has it, and I sure don't have it.
Hell, I didn't even see it!

Bluesroom,
Did you check out the other dark burst that Dave has?

It looks pretty good to me!

You snooze....

I had this happen to me several times at other dealers (never Daves). Unfortunately, the first one to step up gets the guitar. The first time it happened ...I was PO'ed!

I can understand why dealers sell to the first guy with cash because many people do not come through. I suppose if you put a deposit down that sometimes makes a diff. But I never do that. Anyway, there are sooo many LPs!

Bluesroom, that one was a beauty, I inquired about it on Monday and was told that there was a holds on it. Too bad you didn't get her.

11346 or 11347?

I personally love the look of 11347 (is this the one you mean, or is it no longer on the site?) and was ready to call Dave's yesterday about it. I went back and forth between that one and the one I ultimately bought at Ronn's and decided that Ronn's would likely be easier to turn around if I ever wanted to (there was a lot of other pluses and minuses before that, but that's what it ultimately came down to - call me shallow).

I also like the look of this one http://www.davesguitar.com/11360.JPG

Hey Dean, I wasnt referring to you... just saying that if a store says theyll hold it, they should. But maybe they didnt say they would hold it that long. Anyway, whenever Ive wanted a guitar to be held, I put a $100 or so down on it (as long as it is refundable), and then there shouldnt be a problem...

11244 does it for me too...

Please note that we only will hold a guitar for 24 hours on a verbal hold. In this case we put the guitar on hold Friday and when it was not purchased by he end of Saturday the hold was void. I understand that it sometimes takes time to make up your mind, but please don't blame us for doing business while you think about it, especially when there is a second hold on the guitar. Believe me, we have many people putting holds on guitars, and we never hear back from them, so please see it from our point of view. Thanks for listening to my side of the story.

Sincerely,
Dave Rogers

I think Mr Rogers is doing the right thing, I think a deposit should be put down if something should be held, 24 hrs with no money down is generous.

Dave Rogers is one of the finest people I have met in the business. He is a straight shooter and honest as the day is long.
Let me suggest that if you see a guitar that you like, ask all your questions in one phone call, ask for extra photos, and make up your mind that same day.

Dave, you have my vote as Gibson Historic Dealer of the Year!!

Dave's made it really clear when I bought my 335 recently that it was a 24 hr verbal hold ONLY, so I put down the CC number to hold it for sure.. 24 hours is generous especially if they don't know us from Adam..

So sorry to hear that you missed the guitar, but if it's any consolation, I've missed a few too!! Next time give 'em a CC number and most will hold for a lot longer than 24 hours!!

Thanks for your views and comments. No one told me about any 24 hr time limit at the time of the phone call. I'll just leave it at that.I'm sure I'll find another soon enough.
