Allparts Lightweight tailpc.
Anyone else here tried one of these? I got one yesterday. Are they made of the same stuff as the old ones?... ie: nickle plated aluminum.
I put it on my 2000 R9 and wasn't too impressed with the tone. On Toni's recommendation I backed the studs off by one turn so the tailpiece doesn't quite sit flush on the body. I'm gonna try screwing them back down and see what happens. I'd be interested to hear anyone elses take on this thing. Thanks!

Guys,
Gibson is supposed to sell aluminum TP in a few months. All i can say is that Gibson's aluminum TP sounds MUCH BETTER than Allparts's. They Allparts sounds icepicky compared to Gibson's. Why ? ...i can't find why, really, both aluminum, about same shape, so they should sound about the same, but they are not...Gibson lightweight TP sounds very warm. |

I put my gibson lightweight tailpiece on yesterday. OMG, toni is right. I dont know how, or why, but its ..... just more of everything good. I swear it weighs half a pound less than my Y2K tailpiece ! I was tuning my guitar through my amp and could hear it right off the bat and was WHOOA ! Acoustically its sonically LOUDER, and plugged in it took a lot of the harshness away that was there before, with much more warmth now. I still have the 57 classics in, but they are gone shortly.
Oh, I got it for 80 bucks from Classic Ax. He had a few available from bogus 01's going back to gibson. At least he did before I gave RICH his phone number. We all know that RICH would NEVER buy all of them right ? :nicholas

I don't think it's gonna happen
I got conflicting responses from Gibson regarding the lightweight tailpiece. Just got done talking to local dealer. Someone at Gibson said yes they're going plan to make it as an aftermarket part, and the dealer Gibson rep said no they're not. I'm beginning to think it's not going to happen. I have a feeling that Gibson wants us to buy their historic models instead of slapping the LW tailpiece on a standard production model guitar. Sounds absurd???? I'm sick of waiting, might as well get the allparts tailpiece.

There's one way out: Go to guitar Center; buy one of there 01 Historics; replace the featherweight tailpiece with your existing tailpiece; return the Historic to GC for a full and cheerful refund.
It's unethical, but its a fantasy that works on so many levels. |

Allparts Lightweight tailpc
John
Did you ever find out any more about the Brandoni light weight tail piece - is it the same shape as a Gibson and is it available in nickel. Regards The Fet Last edited by The Fet : 10-13-01 at 11:46 AM. |

Fet you over here? The tailpieces I saw at Brandonis are boxed Gotohs. They only carry them in chrome (that kind of place) and didn't know of any other version. They looked pretty correct on a cursory glance and I wondered whether they are in fact the same part that Allparts sell (in nickle). Still at about £25 they're a good way for someone with a chrome hardware standard to get in on the lightweight tailpiece trail.

Yes I'm in UK. I wonder if the light weight tail piece is a standard Gotoh piece. I'll check if they have a web site. The Fet |

Guitar Center tags the '58 at $4,000 and the '58 authentic at 5o dollars more. I don't think they'd go any lower than about $3,600, which I know is high. I wouldn't pay more than $3,200 for these, I've seen the going prices on Ebay. I got to agree that some of these Authentics have very realistc looking tops. I'm not sure if it's because Gibson is using some of the old sawing methods, or if it's the dulled finish. I just my buy one from Guitar Center first just to make sure it's worth the money. I now play an '88 R9 with Antiquities and repainted by Murphy. I think if anyone had found a real vintage Les Paul, and it's finish was in that condition, your first instinct would be to polish it up to mirror like gloss.
I think the real look is important, but I think the dull look is not necessarly more real looking. Two '58s both '01s, one an athentic had alot of damage from displays at the Guitar Renter, uh Guitar Center I went to. Really bad melted looking, they said that they were being sent back, but a month latter, they are still for sale in the store. Remember lacquer takes time to dry, but so did all the other Gibsons they sold, is there a bad batch of '01s floating about? |
