Which ABR for '62 SG?

I'm restoring a '62 SG with the ebony tailpiece. I'm assuming that the correct bridge would be a wireless ABR with the shaped bottom?

Some of them also had Nylon saddles, too.

But would it be wireless with the rounded bottom? Or would it be the standard bottom, also?

Re: Which ABR for '62 SG?

I've owned a number of SG/LP Standards and Customs including a 1960 Standard. That guitar had the "sideways" vibrato but a standard "bottom" ABR-1. Others I've owned or have seen had the "shaped" bottom bridge so it seems to have been somewhat inconsistent. I'd say it was more common for the SG/LP models to have the shaped bridge...

Thanks. So it wouldn't be incorrect for a square bottom to be on, though?

I've seen both (square and contoured) bottom ABR-1 bridges on SG/LPs. I have also seen both for what its worth on tremolo-model ES guitars. For example, when you see a "sideways bender" or even a Bigsby on a vintage ES it would typically have a contoured bridge. But I have seen where that wasn't the case. And, in the case of my stop tailpiece '63 ES-355 where you'd expect it to have a square-bottomed ABR-1 it had a contoured one! Gibson...go figure!

My 62 SGLP and my 62 355 both w/sideways have the no wire shapped br. and nylon saddles.

Re: Which ABR for '62 SG?

I've seen both on the early SG's but every Ebony Block I've looked at including mine has had the curved bottom like your first post (but with nylon saddles.

Oh.... and pics please!!!!

Re: Which ABR for '62 SG?

My '62 ebony block had the rounded bottom ABR-1 and also the domed top thumbwheels. That much I recall for sure but somehow don't remember is the saddles were nylon. I can check pics... BTW, I have some of those '62-'64 wheels if anyone should need them.
