ES-335

Hey guys,
Does anyone know anything about this ES-335, and what do you think would be a good price?

Ah! My guess was '63 or '64. Nice to learn something today!

Re: ES-335

I think the change started around mid '62. I've got a '62 335 in the 5xxxx serial range and it has blocks, which is around the range they start showing up as far as I know (there's a '62 on Tom's site in the 4xxxx range and that's a dot neck).

Nice. Pics please.

Btw, I've always wondered: Are you THE Frutiger (Adrian)?

+1 on the mid '62 for the blocks.

Re: ES-335

The back of the neck near the headstock looks unusually dark. Is it the photo or is there non-original paint there hiding something?

I would want to inspect the instrument personally in hand.

the dot to block transition seems to have happened in the 504xx to 517xx range, relatively early in the '62 serial number sequence.

Here's mine, 51971, 1962 ES-335, refinished black (the original cherry is underneath) and has a few other issues like the PAF's are gone and its had a neck break. But it sounds great and was very affordable

As to the other question. No I'm not, but I'm a fan of his work (especially Frutiger and Univers) and I specialised in typography during my design degree (I'm an Art Director in an advertising agency). I'm guessing you've got more than an interest in that type of thing to know who Adrian Frutiger is?

Sorry for the derail everyone!

Re: ES-335

I saw the GC pics and looked at the serial and my jaw dropped, thinking that serial is....way too close......is it mine??....so I jumped into my car over to where I keep some gear, and ripped thru everything to see my case sitting there....but I had to see it in the case.....ahhhhh...it was sweet to realize....man these serials are really really close.....but not mine thankfully....would have made someones day extremely shitty......
