Help the Ozzies
The Australian dollar is almost at parity do the US one. The Ozzies are crying for Gibson guitars. They will pay you over $3000. for a used R7 so
help them out , and make a few bucks for yourself. Sure the shipping can be a PIA but it's for a good cause.

Re: Help the Ozzies
Not quite sure where you are getting your info from.
There are a couple of R7's on Aussie ebay right now with starting prices under $3000. Shipping a Les Paul here will cost the buyer between $200 and $400 depending on the seller and the carrier although I have seen some USA ebayers quoting over $1000 which is rubbish. It's usually UPS or Fedex. USPS wont send it because Auspost here wont accept anything over 41 inches in length and whereas a year or 2 back, some USPS Post Offices would accept a slightly over length box, now it's getting harder and harder. Then all the import duties on top. It can get expensive.

Re: Help the Ozzies
I'm in Ireland and I've bought three of the four Gibsons I've had in the past three years from the USA. The same reason, a strong Euro made it much easier than buying in from the local thieving monopolies that set their own prices. I saw a regular white Gibson Custom with a Nashville bridge listed at €5000 (about $7000 last year before they finally copped on. That's not a starting point either, that's pretty much what they wanted for that guitar.
Shipping for me has varied between €80 for USPS to €200 with FedEx and DHL. If you're selling a guitar or anything else on the bay do consider that these things cost a lot more outside of the USA and there are honest buyers who will happily give you your asking price. |

Re: Help the Ozzies
For some reason the import fees into Aussie are criminal (no pun intended)...here in New Zealand we pay about $150 in clearance and then tax, at 15%....it gets things up here but shipping is only USD$130, whereas I understand Aussie has limits for box size making it VERY expensive. Correct me if I'm wrong my brothers from the west!

Re: Help the Ozzies
No not right, i just purchased a historic 62 and you only have to pay the 10 percent gst and the 5 percent import duties, thats it, so 15 percent all up regardless of box size.
Killer guitar by the way for the price, you would be silly these days to not utilise the currency parody. Jacob |

Oh and there was also a "processing fee" which was around fifty dollars.
