you consider yourself a "bursaholic"?

not me.

I don't own a burst...have never owned a burst. The closest I've ever come to playing a burst is a '57 goldtop.

Maybe "lustaholic" would be a more appropriate term. Unless you actually do own or have owned bursts. But then, why would you be worried about the rabid need to find a burst within a RI?

Duly noted, henceforth "lustaholic" it is.......peace.......or maybe "historiholic".......I did once shake the hand of a man who's wife's best friend's husband's brother played an original burst.......does that count?

Have had 2 conversions, and was blown away by a Murphy Pearly Gates. Most gorgeous Lester I've ever seen, and the relic job was pretty excellent as well

Re: Which Historic model is most accurate to the real deal?

Geez, tough crowd around here.

I should clarify that I would never purchase an instrument based on specs alone. Tone, feel, sound, playability, harmonics, sustain, and resonance are all automatic selection criteria for me. Ideally, I'd like to find a Historic that's every bit as good, if not better than my '68. Realistically, if I can find one that can come close, I'd be happy. My '68 has tone in spades and along with a friends '56 are my frames of reference for great LP's.

Tough crowd, you think? It’s just that their use to a certain dialogue that does not include anything that has not been cleared, by the Forum elite.
What about trying to find another guitar the same vintage as yours? In the long run, the cost would be deferred by not buying this stuff and being disappointed 10 minutes after you bought it.

Re: Which Historic model is most accurate to the real deal?

I don't think there are too many cases where one buys a Gibson LP historic, and 10 minutes later is disappointed. These are generally wonderful guitars that the vast majority are proud to own and play. I personally think Gibson Custom should be proud of the guitars it is building.

No doubt, many specs no longer hold true to the original 50's guitars. So if specs are your primary concern (since you already have a fine '60s LP guitar), then you probably should look into a '50s conversion or reputable third party replica.

Re: Which Historic model is most accurate to the real deal?

Not literally a tough crowd; I'm just speaking tongue in cheek. Your comment made me chuckle though.

Regarding purchasing a guitar of the same vintage, it would be nice to find a 68 Gold Top that's been converted, with care and competance, to humbuckers. If I can find that for $4K or less and it has the tone and playability I'm looking for, I'll take it. Not likely in my opinion.

I believe there were about 40 total built in this run. As of today 5 still show to be available, if you decide to go that direction. Good luck with whatever you choose........

Yeah, when I saw it posted on their site I could not believe it had not sold. I picked up the phone and bought it on the spot. It has obviously had a few changes. It is a great player. And it is still minty clean other than the mods.

Mine! She's an R6 from 2007, that I sent to Gord Miller in Canada for a refin and relic. She's wearing 50s': pickups, bridge, pots and caps, pickguard, knobs, jackplate, tuners, really everything but pokerchip and backplates. Also, had the neck reshaped to the same profile as a friend's 52 goldtop. And yes, she's left handed!

I had Gord move the "Gibson" inlay to the proper location on the headstock.

Rare, original 52/53 lefty pickguard, that I concider the ultimate prize. How many of these could be floating around out there.
