Finish question

When i got my Firebird in 1997, i ordered a vintage sunburst finish, the darkest part of that finish does not continue onto the side of the guitar as most firebirds i have seen do, i know at the time Gibson was trying to get me to accept a cardinal red bird, i insisted and they sent me one in vintage sunburst, but it always dissapointed me that it seemed like an incomplete job, any clues as to what went on with the finish of this guitar?

Re: Finish question

i'm not sure what you're asking. are you saying you want the sides to be black? that's not right for a 'bird.
