• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

for newbies only (under 200 posts) what model LP and amp do you play the most and why

Current set up is : 1978 natural LP deluxe that was routed for humbuckes, 2016 LP Traditional wine red, warmoth strat HSS with floyd. Powered by my 1979 MK II 2203 and a 412 cab with the original black back celestions. Spare heads are 2 Jet city jca 50h heads and for the money are very decent amps.. I run a mxr micro amp for solo boost, wah wah and a ce2 chorus with a boss tuner. I do have a Nova System in the chain sometimes.

Gibson Les Paul Studio 2016. Gries 5.

Had a 2014 Studio, sold it when I got a 2015 (!) SG Special whose magnificence I could not deny (I tried lord knows I tried). At the time, I couldn't afford to own two $1,000+ guitars.

Missed the Studio cleans, though. Got a 2016 in December. Got the Gries 5 in January.

The Studio gives me the cleans I wanted, and of course is very good with gain. I can't really compare the Gries to any other Champ clone, but it gives me the Champ sound that I want. Lots of tone control, and takes pedals well.

Been eating ramen noodles and walking to work for the last three months. No regrets.

I play (if you can figure out what one of these truly is) a 1975 tobacco sunburst Les Paul. Decal starts with 99 indicating 1975, but all of the pots are 1977. ...Yeah.
Anyway, I play this either through a Mesa Mark 5/25 head or a JCM 2000 Triple Super Lead head, I run the heads through a Marshall 1936 2/12 cab. I also sometimes use a Marshall Power brake to knock off a few db.
Thanks, good to be on the forum. :bluesgtr

I intentionally rotate through all my guitars (that are giggable), Pauls included. So that includes a LP Studio Doublecut and a Les Paul Special. But I arguably play my '99 LP Classic slightly more. In my main band it's almost always through a Sovtek Tube Midget MiG50H 50W head into an old (late '70s/early '80s, I'm guessing) Risson 4x12:

On occasion if I don't feel like messing with the 4x12, I use a vintage Kustom 1x15 with the original J.B. Lansing speaker, as I did at our most recent show:

'08 LP std plus (upgraded w/new bridge & Pickups, also rewired to 50's style wiring) in Wine Red thru either a Frenzel Sportster (modded 5F1 Champ) or Peavey Windsor Studio. I use 3 pedals that I built myself for different OD tones: a Rangemaster clone Booster, a Klon Centaur clone, Or a KOT clone.

And in between a few pedals. I use this in my rock covers band so it does everthing from Thin lizzy to Black Sabbath, and it sounds great, i'm really chuffed with it all.

Been here for three years and never posted. Why? Dont know.
I used to be in a led zeppelin tribute band swan song from phila area.
I used and still have my two main guitars. 2005 jimmy page lp and a 1974 les paul standard with bill lawarence pickups. They were in when I got the guitar back in early 2000. Sounds nice. Had two plexies but now I used the marshall class five combo with lumpys tone shop 1st run of the liquied lead pedal.
