• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Today I bought what appears to be a 98 Gibson SG Special. I only paid $200 cause it has some neck damage, I have fixed multiple Epiphone Les Pauls, an Epiphone SG Special, and an Epiphone Wilshire with damaged head-stocks. The damage to each was a little different but were pretty easy with clean breaks, this one however is cracked on the head-stock, so I am going to have to approach it differently than the others that had complete breaks. I am thinking of trying to inject the crack with titebond II with a syringe. The part that I am going to need some opinions on is it appears that the neck and body have seperated in the past with a bad repair. Now it looks as if it is separating again but doesn't feel lose I will attach some pictures. What do you think would be a good approach to dissolve or loosen the old glue so I can repair it myself. I was thinking microwaving a wet towel.

The other thing that is bothering me a little bit is the authenticity of this guitar. The pickups, potentiometers, and wiring all appear to be original Gibson, but there is no PCB which doesn't make sense to me for a 98. It looks vintage but when I ran the serial online it came up as a 98 and the Gibson logo does look like the 98 silkscreen logo to me. Anyone who has any help to offer would be greatly appreciated. I am going to do some body work and refinishing to the guitar after I get the neck repaired and I am worried about burying the made in USA and serial if anyone has any suggestions on how to approach that would be awesome as well. here are some pictures.
