About a R8

Hi, I need some help regarding a R8 I recently acquired. It's a 2006. My question is: Were there VOS R8's made in 2006, or is it a much later feature? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

IIRC the CA finish ended in 2005 and VOS was introduced in 2006.

So then my 2006 R8 is VOS, right?

If the guitar is stock and the pickup covers are nickel plated, it's likely just a used R8. If the pickup covers are not plated it's likely a VOS. Gibson CS could tell you for sure by SN.

VOS was introduced in the spring of 2006 as I recall. Early '06s still had polished lacquer and un-aged HW.

I purchased my R8 in May of 2006 and it's a VOS model

Right you are, Dan. I have a very early '06 Double cut LP Special Historic, which was gloss, and a mid-year '62 SGLP reissue in VOS. You made me pickguards for both, too!

Yes, it is a (lower cost) finish option.
