Les Paul Exhibit Back In Show

The Les Paul Exhibit is back in the show this year and by popular request. Folks attending the show in 2015 had a ball actually plugging in and playing Les’ own personal guitars, amps and gizmos/gadgets and had the privilege of jamming with the incomparable Lou Pallo, the man of a million cords.
The Les Paul Program curated by Jim Wysocki, longtime friend of Les Paul’s, will have several guitars & inventions from Les Paul’s actual collection. Photographs with the guitars will be allowed as well as being able to plug them in and play. The exhibit will also have one of the first reel to reel tape machines from Les Paul's 8 track machines!
There will be a large display of inventions and gadgets which helped launch the new sound of the 40's and 50's. The first sound on sound disks will also be on hand to view. So much history to touch and see which will be well worth the visit to the show.
New for this year’s show will be Les Paul's Railroad Track experiment. In 1928 Les had the idea of amplifying his guitar; however he needed a dense material. He attempted to fill an acoustic guitar with rags, etc. with no success. He realized the densest material was right in his front yard. The Rail yard!! With his two friends he “borrowed" a 2 foot piece of rail and suspended a string across the rail. Using the ear piece from his telephone and his mother’s radio he was able to produce a sound with sustain and no feedback.
Also on display this year will be one of the very first Les Paul guitars ever produced. The first year Les Paul's had some issues but with a little work they turned the tables on the world with the Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitars.
Jim Wysocki will be demonstrating all the ideas Les had and how he implemented the ideas into actual working objects such as recording disk's which Les multi- tracked with during the 30"s and 40"s. Also some lucky person will be walking away with a small keepsake from Les Paul's collection. NY Guitar Show Website Blowing Up
The NY Guitar Show website is cranking along as it usually does the closer we get to the show. We've had over 68,000 visitors to our site at www.nyguitarexpo.com from just February 1 to March 20. In March (last month) alone 71,527 and so far from April 1-3 over 5,000! Last year these numbers skyrocketed the closer we got to the show topping 250k just in April! Please share the news and get them to the latest highlights on our site.

NY Guitar Expo After Party Open Mic: Once again the NY Guitar Show will be running an after expo party, open mic & jam on the Saturday evening of the show, April 22. The event is open to the public and they are invited to come join in the festivities, fun and music of the Open Mic. Led by the Rich Johnson band with Long Island blues & guitar legend Jim Moran, Grammy and gold wining drummer Rick Shutter and bassist Pete Puelo, this dynamite house band knows a billion songs, all involved will enjoy playing or singing in font of. This will take place at EB Elliot's at 23 Woodcleft Ave. in Freeport, Long Island. EB Elliot's has great atmosphere being on the water, great food and drinks and is the anchor of the Nautical Mile in Freeport. The jam starts around 7 p.m. and will go till about 10:30 p.m. maybe later. Full PA & Backline is provided. The Open mic and after Expo party is geared towards out exhibitors, some of which are world class players locked up in a booth all day. From Manhattan take the any subway to Penn Station. Then take any Long Island Railroad (LIRR) BABYLON line train to the Freeport Station. Get off here and head east toward Henry St., make first right onto Henry St. then left on to E. Merrick Rd. and the Freeport Rec. Center will be on your right. The Babylon line is the busiest and has the most trains heading to and from Penn all hours even on the weekend.

Take ramp right for JFK Expy toward Airport Exit / Belt Pkwy. Pass Holiday Inn Express on the right take ramp left for Belt Pkwy toward eastern Long Island. Keep left to stay on Belt Pkwy North and road name changes to Southern State Pkwy. Take this east to exit 22S, take ramp right for Meadowbrook Pkwy south toward Jones Beach. At exit M9 W, take ramp right for Merrick Rd. west. Continue ahead and bear (stay) right at the first light to to stay on E. Merrick Rd. The 6[SUP]th[/SUP] Annual NY Guitar Expo is proud to announce many new exhibitors have signed on for this 2017 NY Guitar Show. More than a dozen new exhibitors, attendees of the past five years have not seen before.

“While I knew our sixth year was going to be larger and better than ever, calls still are coming from MI, CA and other states around the country, some at the last minute, from dealers looking to exhibit at this year’s expo,” show founder Rich Johnson said.

We were sold out in the main room, however someone bailed on us last night, still waiting for an explanation, but since he never gave deposit I suppose that’s moot point. NY Guitar Expo After Party Open Mic: Once again the NY Guitar Show will be running an after expo party, open mic & jam on the Saturday evening of the show, April 22. The event is open to the public and they are invited to come join in the festivities, fun and music of the Open Mic. Led by the Rich Johnson band with Long Island blues & guitar legend Jim Moran, Grammy and gold wining drummer Rick Shutter and bassist Pete Puelo, this dynamite house band knows a billion songs, all involved will enjoy playing or singing in font of. This will take place at EB Elliot's at 23 Woodcleft Ave. in Freeport, Long Island. EB Elliot's has great atmosphere being on the water, great food and drinks and is the anchor of the Nautical Mile in Freeport. The jam starts around 7 p.m. and will go till about 10:30 p.m. maybe later. Full PA & Backline is provided. The Open mic and after Expo party is geared towards out exhibitors, some of which are world class players locked up in a booth all day. By Long Island Railroad (LIRR) from NYC:
From Manhattan take the any subway to Penn Station. Then take any Long Island Railroad (LIRR) BABYLON line train to the Freeport Station. Get off here and head east toward Henry St., make first right onto Henry St. then left on to E. Merrick Rd. and the Freeport Rec. Center will be on your right. The Babylon line is the busiest and has the most trains heading to and from Penn all hours even on the weekend.

From NJ, PA, Staten Island By Way of Belt Past JFK Airport Plan A:
Take ramp right for JFK Expy toward Airport Exit / Belt Pkwy. Pass Holiday Inn Express on the right take ramp left for Belt Pkwy toward eastern Long Island. Keep left to stay on Belt Pkwy North and road name changes to Southern State Pkwy. Take this east to exit 22S, take ramp right for Meadowbrook Pkwy south toward Jones Beach. At exit M9 W, take ramp right for Merrick Rd. west. Continue ahead and bear (stay) right at the first light to to stay on E. Merrick Rd. About 200 yards ahead on your left will be the Freeport Recreation Center at 130 E. Merrick Rd., Freeport, Long Island. Or if you bear left at this light, this becomes Mill Rd., stay on this a quarter mile and the huge free parking lot will be on your right hand side.

Plan B: You may stay on the Belt Parkway east through Valley Stream, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre, Baldwin and then Freeport. Once in Freeport find Henry St. and make right on to Henry St., then turn left on to E. Merrick Rd. and the Freeport Rec. Center will down a little ways on your right hand side at 130 E. Merrick Rd. Freeport, Long Island.

From upper NY State or New England via Whitestone Bridge
Depart I678 South / Bronx Whitestone Bridge toward I.678 South / Whitestone Expy. Take ramp left for Cross Island Pkwy South toward Eastern, Long Island. At Exit 25A, take ramp left for Southern Pkwy / Southern State Pkwy East toward Eastern Long Island. At exit 22S, take ramp right for Meadowbrook Pkwy toward Jones. At exit M9 W, take ramp right for Merrick Rd. west. Continue ahead and bear (stay) right at the first light to to stay on E. Merrick Rd.
