• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Customs and Standards had different appointments. In '74 the Custom's knob's were still witches hat knob's. Tuners could've been either Kluson wafflebacks, Grovers or Schallers, all with gold tulip buttons.

Rich is correct on the Customs, though the Schaller version I personally haven't seen until '75, and ONLY on a maple neck version..

For Deluxe/Standard, it would be the gold reflector with the gold washed silver cap, and tuners would be the Kluson Gibson Deluxe double rings..with a standard size bushing...on the maple necked versions, there was a large conversion bushing used with them until 1077, when it was replaced with the Schaller nickel "flower tuner".

I bought this Les Paul Custom as a '72, but after discussion here, we determined it to be a late 1974. It has reflector knobs & Grover tuners. I'll have to change the text on the photo someday.

According to cavity routing, yours is most probably a 75 one. These Grover tuners sometimes appeared in the late 73 - early 75 span. Most in early to mid 74.

The cavity had it's ears clipped to accommodate the grounding plate..but what is odd, is that was done well before the plate appeared...:hmm

I took it apart again to check the pot codes, I couldn't remember what week they were made. As it turned out, all of the last digits were covered with solder. I could only see 13774 on two pots. It could very well be late '74 or early '75. This was sold to me as a 1972 by a reputable dealer. I have also corresponded with other owners thinking they had a 1972 that ended up being a '74 or '75. I'll post a better shot of the round channel.

Is it the photo or are the controls in the post 80 position? The neck volume knob appears to sit above the tailpiece stud.
