I was based in NYC all through the 90's working for Sony Music and was very fortunate to see hundreds of great shows ranging from the smallest club to stadiums covering every type of music. My all time favorite concert by far was Pink Floyd in Yankee stadium in 94. My seat was on the grass in the middle of center field and not only were the visuals amazing, the overall sound was as if I had headphones on! Meeting the guys before the show also made this a very special day.

July 1999, Bruce Springsteen.

Here's why.

I bought the tickets on-line, which at that time was still kind of something new. It was time to get tickets, signed on, Section 8, Row C, seats, 10, 11. $65.

Humm. OK I'll take them. I figure, alright these are the section at the back of the floor behind the sounds guys. ahh No problem.

So weeks go by, Where's my freekin tickets? I call up, the woman takes a few minutes gets back on the line and says, Those tickets must be picked up at the "will Call " window two hours before the performance. Huh? Um. OK. thanks. Why would they do that for those seats? Oh well, whatever.

Day of the show, "Will Call" window. I must show ID, and get a wristband. Huh? I asked her why. She said those seats are front row center.

WHAT? NO WAY! woah.

Turns out that the seat sections are set with the higher numbers next to the stage. so 7, 8, 9 are at the stage. Row C is the first row sold. Rows A and B are kept empty, by Bruce You'll find out why in a minute. So the whole time I was thinking I was in the back, I was actually in the FRONT! Holy Smokes!

So I put on the wristband, go to the gate, I get an usher who looks at the seat, snaps the tickets over his hand, says Front row center. He then escorts me all the way to the seats.

The first two rows are empty for about fifteen minutes but people start coming in two at a time to those seats. The people who got in front in the A and B rows were completely pumped and like Wooo Woo. They turned around and said that their ORIGINAL seats were in the uppers in the back row. Somebody came up to them and said here are two tickets from Bruce.

So it turns out that Bruce sends people out to the worst seats in the house and gives them FRONT ROW seats at his concerts. I never knew that until that night. I was in the first paid row.

I was right in front of the center mike, Bruce. Clarence was to our left a little bit, and the first two rows in front of him were ALL women. Ha ha. figure out that one.

In one of the songs, while Bruce was fist pumping his fist, a pick flew out from his hand and end over end seemingly in slow motion came down right at me. The guy in front of me caught it. Darn. While Bruce was taking the applause, he looked down and said off mike while nodding his head, I could read his lips, "Did you get it? Did you get it?" The guy in front of me held it up like a trophy.

The rest of the concert was one of his classic three hour long marathons. That area was just alive with electricity. Stood up the whole time.

Wow

I know I will probably never get seats like that again.

For me, best concert ever.

The best concert experience I personally have heard of. Whoa --- that's so fucking cool. :dude:

U2 - Vertigo Tour. 2005, United Center - Chicago.

They filmed that tours DVD during the series of shows in Chicago. This night was Bono's B-Day too and the show was killer. Don't care what people say Edge can play!! Check out "Electric Co" from that DVD on YouTube - played on LP.

So many! There's a top ten but this is best ever....so I will have to go with Bob Dylan at the Ventura Fairgrounds in the fog around the mid 2000's I think.

Bob and the band were truly inspiringly on. They were opening for Phil Lesh's band with Robben Ford. Even though I am a Ford fan, we had to leave a few minutes into their set to keep the magic in our heads from the Dylan set. We were not the only ones.

The Phil Lesh & Friends show from that Dylan/Lesh tour down in Del Mar was pretty good! Paul Barrere had technical issues so it was all Robben for the 1st long tune (dancing in the streets). Robben also sang a mean Tennessee Jed.

Dylan was great! Larry Campbell on guitar, who years later would be in Phil's band. It was July 2nd 2000 as I recall.

Pretenders, 1981 I think? They were touring to support their second album and were headlining small venues. I saw them at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, it was the original line up and they blew the doors off of the place. The hungriest, nastiest, tightest band I had ever witnessed. They were on fire!

So many great ones going back to the '60s, including Woodstock and Newport.
I wish that I could remember them all.

John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band---yup, the "Eddie and the Cruisers" band--that played in a small concert venue/bar in Pennsylvania. What a great performer and a personable guy. The entire band come out after the show for autographs and photos. Really just a great connection to the audience.

2nd choice: Cheap Trick in a free concert at the New York State fair in Syracuse.

3rd. Any KIX show, anywhere, any time. Best bar band EVER, bar none.

Ok don't yell at me but the best i ever saw was Kiss in '76 at Roosevelt stadium in Jersey City. Why? Because I've never seen a crowd go so insane over a band in my life. J Geils opened for them and they were abused by the crowd until they left the stage furious how they were treated. People were just Kiss crazy back then. The place was electric and Kiss really put on a show

It depends whether you're preferring the musicianship side of things or 'the event'.

For the first, I'd say Robin Trower and Jack Bruce touring their Seven Moons album at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh. Two of my favourite musicians and they were truly magnificent.

For 'the event', it'd be The Stone Roses at Spike Island in 1990. The sound was rubbish and it wasn't a great gig but it was a great day and totally memorable for many reasons.

I just saw McCartney 2 months ago at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. I had great seats and it was my 1st time seeing him. Totally impressed, and he played his 'burst too! I've seen just about everybody and this was as good as I can remember. I saw a lot of the famous bands in their heyday but I don't recall the details as so much time has passed. I remember everything about this one.

The most memorable concert for me would be Cream in '68 in Edmonton. We were in awe.

A close second would be Deep Purple, can't remember the year. They were new, Kentucky Woman just hit the charts, they played their asses off. Opened for Vanilla Fudge. It must've been hard for Fudge to try to follow that monster of a band.

Had to be 68. They were kicked off the Cream Farewell Tour because Blackmore was Hendrix Part 2 for Clapton and his management wouldn’t have it. I think they did the Hollywood Bowl show and a few more.
