• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The "Weber" label is a dry transfer decal. 40 years ago the only available decals were varnish applied and terribly difficult to install. The dry transfers come from a supplier who can also do custom art work as well.

I'm using a lacquer finish. I don't normally refinish as part of my piano service business, that work goes to a pro, but the fee on this one was over twice the price because of the carving.

With extremely rare exception, pianos have no antique value, rather their value comes from being a quality brand and a well-playing instrument. Restoration is a value-enhancing undertaking.

So true. I'm just going through this with a baby grand.
I was relieved to find out is isn't an undesirable brand, and that is is going to be worth the effort.

Lid stripped!

Notice: Most Brazilian has beautiful color like this and is nowhere near black like so many misinformed people think all Brazilian fingerboards should be black!!!

Absolutely! Most of the wood on this baby is flat sawn and veneered, a few pieces are solid rosewood and the lid stabilizer is one such. It also happens to be quarter sawn and very dark, and would yield many fingerboards.

Well, thanks to Photobucket all my pics are gone, but my project is moving, albeit, slowly. To recap: the piano is a Weber, built in New York, circa 1880. The cabinet is rosewood in Rococo style, bit by bit I'm getting some finish on her. Here's the lid: BTW, I'm using lacquer.

Here's a pic of the piano as it sits currently. The lid and front facia is re-finished, and body is stripped.

I love this view. Refinished fallboard and a new/old set of beautiful ivories.

I hate you so bad right now it's palpable. That last shot I could stare at all day...
