    New 2002 Specs Standard

There seems to be a demand for 2002 Standards as Gibson has issued a run based on those specs. This one looks awesome:

It didn't play very well but would look great on the wall.

I love that era of USA Standard, but enough with the limited runs.

A run? How is that any different than a LP Traditional?
Just the neck and pickups (50s or 60s & BB Pros)?

What is so different about the 2002 Standards? Did they still have ABR's and nickel hardware then? Other than that, and pickup selection (wasn't it just 490/498 in that period?), I don't know what the difference would be.

Is there an announcement of this run?. Where did you find it?.
If they have nickel hardware and an ABR, it's the way I think they should be making the regular Standards now. I dislike chrome and Nashville bridges.

As you might expect I found this guitar among a gaggle of other "new 2002" in Japan. So they might not even hit the US market.
Anyway, it was more about showing this nice top than about the specs.
They are quite cheap in local standards btw, around JPY 170,000.

Sounds like a "Japan only" run, I should have known!

Weird. I actually changed out a lot of the parts on mine to suit my personal taste. The thing I like about the very early run of 2002 Standards is the choice of woods and attention to detail in the quality department that seemed to come along with the high profile relaunch. If they've managed to recreate that then fair enough.

That was when they first introduced the BB's, and the current Traditionals have Classic 57's in them. Also, the neck carve was different. Remember the 50's/60's spec'd necks? The current traditional has a neck shape supposedly the same as the 80's Standards.

So, Burstbucker's and either a 50's or 60's neck carve....and it looks like the knobs are different. Otherwise, the same.
