String Spacing

How much space do most of you have from the edge of the binding to the thin "E" string? (Or from the edge of the neck if that is easier to measure.) Mine is almost touching the binding and pulls off. The dealer says it is warrenty but I need to know how you all like yours.

Also how much neck relief. I have mine set at .012 at the 8th fret.
I use 10>46.

What angle of fall off do you have your fret edges filed at?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Mine was the same way on my 2001 std, I kept pulling it off the side of the neck. I wound up filling the old high E slot with a superglue-baking soda mixture and recutting the slot just a little closer to the B. No problems now.

Thanks for the reply.

Did you cut a new grove in the bridge as well?

What is the measurement from the binding edge.

I nearly always re-nut my guitars (myself) as a matter of course because of the same problem you describe. My Standard Plus has a string spacing of 35mm centre of bottom E to centre of high E. This leaves an easy to measure 7mm between strings (5 gaps remember). This puts both E strings 2mm from the edge of the wood/start of the binding. This stops the strings being so easy to pull off. No changes are needed at the bridge end. It gives a great improvement overall. Hope this helps.

yeah once and a while its gonna go over the other side, but usually it stays where its supposed to. i hardly see how cutting the nut would help...

Many thanks for the info. My centre to centre of the E strings is also 35 mm (dead on) but I only have slightly more than 1 mm from the centre of the thin "E" to the binding.

Because of this, pull offs are trouble. My dealer agrees and did get this covered under warranty. Before it is done, I just wanted to see what others had their's set up at.

What is the fall off angle on your frets. I'm about 35 deg. Should this be flatter?

Thanks

Hey Brianf, this is the next Brian after you, BrianG (seriously!). I thought I would mention I too have run into some problems with the high E nut slot a little too close to the edge of the fingerboard for my liking.

By the way, so I just get back to Toronto from being in Dallas Texas, and what the hell is happening around here? Geez we have gone backwards into winter, it's cold and snowing, I think I'm going back to Dallas. Leave a message when this winter crap has finished and I'll come back then. ;\
So generally speaking where abouts are you located? I'm east of central, just inside the former Scarborough.

I'm actually in Mississauga. QEW and Winston Churchill area.

What did you do about your string spacing? A new nut and bridge piece? The guys at Guitar Shop in Port Credit (where I bought it) did get warranty authorization. I was thinking of possibly putting an Earvana nut in though.

At one point I was going to trade it, but the top is so nice I don't think I would find another unless I went to an R9.

Until next time.

I didn't need to mess with the bridge piece. I just filled the old slot with superglue/baking powder mix, pulled the taut string in a little to where I wanted it, marked the position with a pencil and recut the slot. No problems whatsoever now.

I've got an Earvana nut for my Strat, but haven't had it installed yet. Somehow, I managed to order the wrong size top and haven't gotten around to reordering the right one. I really don't need one for my LP, the intonation on it is so much better than my strat, even when both are intonated with a strobe tuner.

It will be interesting to see how the Earvana works. You have the opposite problem to me. My Strat is very in tune, the LP is not. If the G string is perfectly in tune Open and at the 12th, if I fret the G at the 2nd or 3rd fret on the LP I am Sharp 10 to 12 cent. The Strat is only out by 3 or 4 cent. But, the Strat has the LSR roller nut and it is about 1 mm closer to the first fret than the LP. So that combined with the longer scale on the Strat might explain my situation.

Thanks for the comments
